Q2.How effective was the construction of the main product and ancillary text
The ancillary text produced was my poster and radio Trailer
Radio Trailer Script:
I believe my poster was very effective and complimented my film. My poster had many attributes that made it effective
1. The title: The title 'Broken' is written with font style "Two Folds" and in the colour white. I had chosen to use this particular font as it reflects the protagonist well. The fact that the words are quite distorted and cold gives an impression that the main protagonist is in some sort of inner conflict or danger. The word "Broken" was used to illustrate her personality the idea that the protagonist is damaged and slowly beginning to disintegrate as she battles for her life.
2.The images: There are three distinct images used in my poster. These were actual screenshots from my film. I had decided to put three different pictures in my poster to demonstrate not only three stages of her life but also, to emphasis
the protagonist's journey. The main image is a picture of my protagonist. I decided to use this picture and place it at the center of my poster. As It connotes fear and ties in with the genre of the film.
The image on the left shows the protagonist looking in a downward motion to emphases her heartache and fragility
The second image on the right shows a long path. This image was used to connote the child's journey and where she is heading. It leaves the audience when seeing the poster question why it is there and start to accumulate as to what the story was about
3.The certification: I decided to have the certification at 12. The reason for this was be container film does contain some distressing images of when the protagonist starts to spew blood. The final scene where she is presumed to be dead.
4.The logo: The logo that Hanna had created was used as in my posters that I have seen the logo of a production company or distributor is present. Hence I decided to stick to this convention as it tells the audience who had created, produced the film.
The Radio Trailer:
The radio trailer was based in dialogue from the film as well as inverting sounds and a voice over from the protagonist herself.
Myself and Hanna worked on the radio trailer together. We had decided to focus heavily on sound codes both diegetic and non-diegetic. We decided to use emotive music throughout the trailer. Ur there will be some silences to hold more of an impact.
We wanted to create tension in our trailer so we used the use of layering where we merged sounds together such as the protagonists dialogue scene and the uproar if chaos and shouting from the protagonist parents of the film.
The Voice over was narrated by the protagonist herself. This is gradually being seen in films such as "My Sisters Keeper" hence, we thought this was more effective as it gives another deeper layer of meaning from the protagonist herself.
Here is my script below:
Music: Emotive Music>>>
Dialogue: If you are watching this, you know that I have left… (Faded out)
… And I won’t be coming back….
Music: Tension music begins to build)
Flashback SFX: (glass smashing, arguing, shouting)>>Layering
Dialogue: “Hey why are you alone?” Echoing on loop
V/O: You think that you would live forever…
You don’t expect it… but Life stops…
Living while you’re young is just a myth…
No one can help you… you just have to
Run...Run…Run…
Over powering tension music
Dialogue: Goodbye. I love you. (Echoing)
Silence…
If you are watching this, you know that I have left.
Silence…
And I wont be coming back.
SFX: Coming in a cinema near you.
